Road Bike Trends for 2023

Mar 24, 2023

What new road bike tech can we expect in 2023? We’ve witnessed some big product launches and innovations over the past year as the industry bounced back from the pandemic-caused slowdown and we can’t wait to see what’s in store in 2023.

Keep reading to see how our 2022 predictions fared and the upcoming trends in road biking!

What we thought in 2022

Last year, we published our expectations for road bikes and had mixed success in our predictions. One trend we saw on the rise was larger tire clearance and that’s definitely been the case with racing rubber easily reaching 28-30mm and gravel tires pushing beyond 35-40mm. In 2023, however, we expect tire widths to stay put as we reach the limit of increased rolling resistance and efficiency.

We also anticipated new electronic groupsets and a return to regularly scheduled product launches, events that were interrupted by the pandemic. Our hunch was correct as we witnessed the release of Shimano’s 105 Di2 electronic groupset that made electronic shifting more accessible. BBIKE’s new lineup of road bikes for 2023 features the R23 6.0 PRO CARB DISK Di2 that's outfitted with the all-new Shimano 105 Di2 drivetrain. With prices for electronic setups remaining relatively high, we think the big players like SRAM and Shimano will make changes to their mechanical groupsets to expand their gearing and offer more affordable options.

Eurobike 2023

This summer, Benelli Bike is making its debut at Eurobike 2023, the leading global trade fair for the bike business! Eurobike is the largest show on the calendar and the best place to catch up on the latest trends and have a peek at the future of cycling.

BBIKE will be launching our newest generation of 2023 road bikes equipped with the latest tech. Our R23 6.0 series comes with electronic Di2 shifting and we’ve made significant improvements to last year’s carbon and aluminum models. Come see us at Eurobike this year, in Frankfurt, Germany from June 21-25.

Creative frame designs

Another hot trend we expect this year is a focus on innovative frame shapes and materials. The birth of aero bikes years ago was a huge creative moment and we may experience a similar explosion of new ideas. This time it won’t only apply to aerodynamic gains, however, but the changes could also enhance bike comfort and lower weight.

As carbon fiber technology continues to advance, it’s become easier and more cost-effective to manufacture lightweight frames. That said, many frame shapes are beginning to look the same so 2023 could be the year that we depart from these types of ‘cookie cutter’ carbon bikes. New technologies like 3D printing have revolutionized the fabrication process and companies have already started to leverage this to create customized frames and smaller component parts.
